CHS debate team places fourth at state

FORT SCOTT — The Concordia High School team of Conner Thrash, Ye Gang Lee, Keegan Grogan and Braxton Kindel placed fourth in the Kansas High School Activities Class 3-2-1A 4-Speaker Debate State Tournament on Saturday..
Thrash and Lee debated the affirmative for Concordia and Grogan and Kindel debated the negative. Kylee Hower was the alternate.
“These kids worked incredibly hard and faced some real tough competition this weekend. I'm really proud of them and the rest of the team as well,” Concordia debate coach Zac Morris said.
Other schools competing at state included Lawrence-Bishop Seabury, Wichita Collegiate, Hoisington, Chapparal, Salina-Sacred Heart, Thomas More Prep-Marian, and Silver Lake Wichita Independent.
Wichita Collegiate won the tournament by going undefeated in 16 rounds of debate. Sacred Heart (13-3) was second and Thomas More Prep (12-4) was third.
The teams qualified by placing in the top three at their regional tournaments.
Concordia won the regional at Silver Lake on December 21.
