CHS Student of the Month – Chloe Conway

Here's an interesting fact about Chloe Conway, one of the best all-around female athletes at Concordia High School (CHS): she plays the piano.
She claims she doesn't play it well. "I played a lot when I was little, a lot of 4-H shows," Conway said. "I enjoy making music. The piano is so pretty to listen to, and you really have a feeling of accomplishment when you finish a song you've been working on for awhile."
Aside from being a dominant athlete who was just named to the All-NCKL First Team as a volleyball player, Conway participates in Student Council, Science Club, Friends of Rachel, Spanish Club, Kansas Volleyball Club - the Jets, CYO, and the National Honor Society.
She'll also play basketball and track her senior year, but volleyball is her favorite sport. "I've always enjoyed playing volleyball, and I get to play with my friends. When I play, I can forget about everything else, and that's nice."
The best part of a volleyball game? "I like the feeling when the setter gives me the perfect set-up. I can crank it up and get a kill."
Born in Manhattan, Conway moved to Concordia when she was four, and she appreciates the rural life. "I was just so blessed to grow up in a town like Concordia, but I also want to see what else is out there in the world."
Conway has signed to play volleyball at Hutchinson Community College after she graduates from CHS. "I visited a few different schools, but Hutch was my best offer. It's a bigger school, but not too big, and I thought it was important to stay close to home for a few years."
Conway hopes to finish playing volleyball at a four-year college, but she's not sure which school she'll attend. She'd like to live in the Gulf Coast area for awhile. "I think being able to go to one of the coastal schools would be great. I really love it down there."
After college, Conway plans to take a few years off and volunteer for an organization like the Peace Corps, or GIVE - a volunteer program with outreach organizations in foreign countries like Nepal, Tanzania, Thailand and Vietnam.
"I want to help people while I can, and I think this would be a great way to go to places like Third World countries, meet new people and different cultures and grow as a person."
Wherever her travels and her volleyball skills take her, Conway will miss the town that has shaped so much of her life. "I'm going to miss my friends and family a ton. I'm really close with my friends, and my mom and dad. I know it will be hard, but I'm really eager to take that next step in life."
Congratulations to Chloe Conway, the CHS Student Of The Month.
