County approves contract for hauling of solid waste

A 2019 contract for transportation of municipal solid waste was approved by the Cloud County board of commissioners during its regular meeting on Monday.
Mike Hake, Solid Waste director, presented the contract with Owen Trucking, at a rate of $442 per trip, to the commission. It is an increase of $8 per trip from the current year.
Brandi Bray, Health Department administrator, presented the office hours to the commission.
Beginning January 1, the Health Department will be open Monday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. And Friday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Walk-ins will be available on Wednesday, and the office will be open over the lunch hour Monday through Thursday.
The public is invited to view the documentary “Someone you Love — The HPV Epidemic” at Cook Theatre on the campus of Cloud County Community College from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
For questions contact the Health Department. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.
Bray also reported to the board that two air units at the Health Department are failing, and that 26 layette sets have been provided by the First United Methodist Church that will be used for newborn Health Start home visits.
Maintenance manager Henry Eilert reported to the board that the Kansas Drivers License office requested a temporary change in office hours from December 26-January 5 to open at 7 a.m.
The board recommended that Eilert let them know that the Courthouse doors are not open until 7:30 a.m.
Sheriff Brian Marks met with the board, and discussed the requested budget balance information, condensation issues at the Law Enforcement Center and the possibility of build sheets from construction.
Andy Asch, Highway Department administrator, discussed the gravel policy and the Ames/Miltonvale Road with the board.
The board approved the road surfacing policy, effective January 1, with the cost going from $5.05 to $5.30 per ton.
Doug McKinney, North Central Regional Planning Commission, met with the board and reported the Clyde wastewater project was completed. He also discussed the Community Development Block Grant program and the possible assistance that could be provided related to the Health Department.
The board approved a classification change for Amanda Hacker, office clerk, at a wage of $12.50 going to $12.90 effective December 9, 2018 due to the introductory period ending.
Payroll deductions and benefits totaling $215,491.17 were approved by the board.
The approved the following payroll expenses totaling $190,292.12 :
General fund, $97,820.59; appraisal, $6,579.91; noxious weed, $511.54; solid waste, $5,958.23; road & bridge, $55,380.21; county health, $17,849.51; election, $6,192.13.
County offices will be closed next Monday and Tuesday.
