County board approves signing grant application

The Cloud County board of commissioners discussed the meeting on Courthouse security that was held last Friday during its regular meeting on Monday.
An official report with suggestions for security measures will be presented at a later date. It was reported that those suggestions are likely to include keeping all doors that the public do not need to access locked, closing a half a day each quarter to have staff safety training, installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, posting additional signs for locations of emergency supplies, creating a safety committee and adding cameras and monitoring them.
Also during the meeting, the board approved having chairman Gary Caspers sign a grant application for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for the grant period July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020 in the amount of $126,648.51. The application was presented to the board by Health Department administrator Brandi Bray.
Highway Department administrator Andy Asch called into the meeting to report that the department was looking into doing repairs on the Norway blacktop road rather than the Ames/Miltonvale blacktop road.
Sheriff Brian Marks met with the board, and reported that he would contact Eric Johnson with Campbell & Johnson Engineers, PA about getting started with repairs to the Law Enforcement Center. He also reported that he had picked up the lawnmower that had been stolen from the Cloud County Fairgrounds from the Wichita Police Department.
The board acknowledged the termination of Brock Crump, Recycling Center equipment operator.
Levi Whitley with the EMS Association discussed the upcoming meeting and training dates and classes offered at Concordia High School with the board.
Requests for Meridian Way Wind Farm grant funds, made available by EDP Renewables, from the National Orphan Train Complex and the Knights of Columbus Council #2114 Aurora were presented to the board.
The National Orphan Train Complex is requesting $2,898.92 for the train car station exhibit. Total cost of the project is estimated at $40,827.89.
The Knights of Columbus Council #2114 is requesting $18,770.50 to replace windows.

General Fund, $101,665.56; Special Bridge, $81,000; Juvenile Justice, $29.95; Appraisal, $974.22; Noxious Weed, $40.95; Solid Waste, $14,873.48; Pawnee Mental Health, $2,248.69; OCCK, $27,38.36; Employee Benefits, $11,622; Special Building, $3,407; Historical Museum, $970.35; Auto Special, $1,705.35; Clerk Tech Fund, $300; Road & Bridge, $39,104.68; Juvenile Reinvestment, $235.89; Community Corrections, $195.01; County Health, $11,715.52; Election, $34.97; Fair, $10,55.17; Court Services, $300; County Tourism & Convention, $3,464.01; Vending Machines, $26; Soil Conservation, $640.02; Services for the Elderly, $2,457.27; Treasurer Tech Fund, $1,427.98.
