Fire causes heat, smoke damage at NCK Mats & More 

A fire Wednesday night caused heat, smoke and water damage to the NCK Mats & More facility.
The Concordia Fire Department received the call at 8:48 p.m. and arrived on scene at NCK Mats & More, 125 ½ East 12th St. at 8:52 with Engine 1, Engine 2, Medic 2, Medic 4 and nine personnel.
The fire was under control by 9:06 p.m. and the Fire Department was clear of the scene at 10:04.
Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
NCK Mats & More owners Jeff and Ronda Gumm and their daughter Jordynn Gumm noticed smoke in the office when arriving to do paperwork.
Discovering the shop area was filled with smoke, Jeff called 911.
Jeff said that a plastic cart filled with dried wet mops was on fire.
“We don't know if it got hot in the drier and then laid there and smoldered, or what,” Jeff said.
Jeff said most of the damage to the facility is smoke damage.
