Householter fundraiser creates scholarship

Jane Jewell presented a check for $4,958.17 to USD 333 Superintendent of Schools Quentin Breese to create a scholarship fund at Concordia High School in the name of Terry Householter.
Householter, a standout track athlete at CHS and a state record holder, tragically lost his life in the Vietnam War at the age of 21.
Jewell was part of a group of volunteers who began a fundraising drive to raise $3000 to build a memorial for Householter at the new track and field complex at Harold M. Clark Stadium. The response was so overwhelming that enough funds were raised to build the memorial and create a scholarship fund in Householter's name.
"Terry had so many friends in this community, and to see the community come together for him is amazing," Jewell said. "I think this brings closure for a lot of us."
Once the fundraising drive was publicized, donations poured in from all over the United States.
"We received donations from people we did not know, many of them military veterans who were moved by Terry's story," Jewell said.
Jewell wanted to emphasize that people can still contribute to the scholarship fund through the school district. "I hope this scholarship is something we can keep going for a long time."
