Kobach makes stop in Concordia during final campaign push

Making a final push heading into Tuesday’s general election, Republican candidate for governor of Kansas Kris Kobach and his running mate Wink Hartman made a stop in Concordia on Saturday.
Kobach and Hartman met with potential voters at Jitter’s Coffeehouse & Lounge, and each urged those in attendance to help turn out the vote.
“The way the polls are looking it could be another razor thin majority, so we really, really need your help. It is going to be an exciting night I think,” Kobach said.
Kobach and Democratic candidate Laura Kelly are in a tight race, according to recent polls.
Kobach said that while he and Hartman are in Concordia, Kelly was in Wyandotte County and northern Johnson County.
“What she is doing is racking up votes in the places where there are the most liberal voters. And what we are doing is, we are on our home turf, which is Concordia,” Kobach said.
Kobach said that typically in mid-term elections about half of the voters don’t vote.
“It is all about getting your people to the polls,” Kobach said, “So Laura Kelly is building up numbers in Douglas County, Wyandotte County and north Johnson County. We are in our home base which is pretty much everything west of Topeka. And we have to get our numbers up. So you guys are our home team. If you have already voted, then think of five people. You don’t have to call them, just text them. You know, people who sometimes vote, sometimes don’t, just give them a reminder, don’t forget before Tuesday or on Tuesday.”
Kobach said the race is going to be a battle going into election day.
“We are looking after the taxpayer. We are looking after the unborn, our firearm rights. You name it, we will do the right thing if we get in there, but we have got to fight until the very end,” Kobach said.
