BETTY I. BARRETT

Betty I. Barrett, age 90, entered into rest on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, Kansas.  She was born on September 12, 1928 in Ionia, Kansas to Manuel and Ruby (Violet) Shelton.
She was a 1945 graduate of Randall High School.
She married Dean Barrett on February 8, 1948 at Randall, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on November 29, 1991. Betty taught 2 years in a country school in the Randall community and was a Para for Courtland school systems for several years.  She then worked for Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home in Jamestown before working for the United States Postal Service, retiring as the Asst. Post Master.
She was a member of the Jamestown Methodist Church, served as a leader for the Eager Beavers 4-H Club,  a member of Beaver E.H.U., and served on the Jamestown Library Board.
Her hobbies included sewing, flower gardening, reading, and she loved playing games with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Roger Barrett (Donna), Jamestown, KS.; Scott Barrett, Wichita, KS.; a daughter, Diana Wieland (Denis), Colby, KS.; 9 grandchildren, Stacey Barrett Forshee, Kevin Barrett (Karen), Denise Meier (Tim), Dalene Wieland-Collett (Tony), Denita Rogers, Deni Wieland (Kathy), Branden Barrett (Jenny), Jamie Powers (Rob), Derek Barrett (Fiance, Andrea), 18 great grandchildren, Kendra (Fiance, Blaine), Lauren (Braden), Wyatt, Katherine, Derek, Hayley, Brenna, Cooper, Carter, Brody, Dayton, Lauren, Noah, Ava, Jayden, Kaylie, Braxton, Blaine, 1 great-great-grandchild, Blake and 1 on the way.  3 brothers, Warren Shelton (Shirley), Unionville, VA.; Richard Shelton (Sharon), Rogers, AR.; Frank Shelton (Thelma), Jewell, KS.; a sister, Donna Drees, Carmichael, CA.; 2 sister-in-law’s, Fawna Barrett, Randall, KS.; Lida Barrett, Knoxville, TN.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, parents, Manuel and Ruby, 2 brothers, Bob and Beryl Shelton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 1-8 pm at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6-8pm.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Jamestown United Methodist Church with the Pastor Randy Whitley officiating.  A private family graveside will be held prior to services at Randall Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Jamestown Library or Mount Joseph Senior Village in lieu of flowers at c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
