Carol “Jean” Smith, 96, of Perry, Kansas, formerly of Concordia, died Saturday, January 4, 2020, with her loving family at her side at home in Perry. She was born January 22, 1923, at Kackley, Kan., the daughter of James F. and Etta Mae Dickerhoof Carney. She was a 1940 graduate of Kackley High School and attended the Venus Beauty Academy in Wichita. As a farmer’s wife for 60 years, she also worked six years at the ASCS office in Concordia and served as a funeral assistant at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Concordia and the Victory Circle Club in Concordia. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Aux. and the Red Hat Society, all in Concordia. She was married to John Alden Smith on October 2, 1944, at Jamestown; he preceded her in death on June 1, 2002. She is survived by one daughter, Jan (Steve) Stevens, Perry, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Maxine Smith, Jamestown, Kan.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, John “Terry” and Peggy Smith, two sisters, and one brother.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the Baptist Church of Concordia. Inurnment will be at Jamestown Cemetery.
