CAROLINE MARIE MCKENNA

Caroline Marie McKenna, age 64, passed away on November 5, 2019, at Overland Park Regional Health Center surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 22, 1955, to William and Mary Ann (McKimmy) Lagemann. Carol graduated from Concordia High School, Cloud County Community College and Kansas State University with her bachelor's and master's in education. She married Jay Richard McKenna in 1977. They later divorced but remained close friends while raising their children.
Carol taught elementary school in Kaw City, Oklahoma, for three years and was a special education teacher for the Concordia, Kansas, school system for 21 years. She was a member of the Concordia First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and directed Bible School and Christmas Programs. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Delta and the Nathan Edson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed helping with 4-H projects, such as ceramics and crafts.
She loved history and learning about her family roots in Missouri and southern Arkansas.  Later, her children included her in their adventures on the lake and local jaunts. She especially enjoyed going on cruises. Her passion for reading led to armchair adventures and being part of a book club. Endless card games with the family always made holidays special.
Carol is survived by her three children: Nicholas McKenna (Nicolette Huffman), Christopher McKenna (Micaela) and Alicia Newby (Brent) of Overland Park, Kan.; one grandchild, Bryer McKenna; mother, Mary Ann Lagemann, Overland Park, Kan.; brother, John Lagemann (Shawn), Olathe, Kan.; sister, Mary Lisa Thoman (Lowell), Concordia, Kan., and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Jay McKenna, and father, William W. Lagemann.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Concordia First United Methodist Church with Pastor Melanie Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be Friday, November 8 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Nutter Mortuary, Concordia, Kan.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Concordia First United Methodist Church.
