CHARLES A. SMITH

Charles A. Smith, age 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, died October 6, 2020, at the Kingswood Health Center. Charles was born February 11, 1944, at the Brown County, Horton Hospital. He was the only child of E. Phil and Marguerite Smith, who moved to Concordia, Kan., in 1947. Charles earned his Eagle Scout Badge in 1957 and graduated from Concordia High School in 1962, where he served as the Student Assistant Band Leader his senior year.
Charles was then a pre-med student at Washburn University where he participated in the school’s orchestra.
Charles married Carol Anne Nees on March 20, 1970, at St. Michael and all Angels Episcopal Church  in Shawnee Mission, Kan. At that time Charles was employed as a dental technician in a Kansas City dental laboratory.
Charles married Carol Scott on December 23, 1981, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Kansas City, Mo., where he has been a faithful member for many years. At that time Charles was on an organ transportation team with Midwest Medical.
Some referred to Charles as a renaissance man. He was very intelligent and proud of his medical pursuits and knowledge as evidenced by many medical books. He had a photo album of the jewelry he had made. He played many musical instruments including the trombone, guitar, keyboard and piano (which he often  played at Kingswood). A photo of his hands declared “these hands have written articles for the University of Missouri paper… adjusted microscopes to view through them... performed surgery…tied flies for trout fishing…strummed the strings of a guitar… and played the keyboard.” Charles also appreciated his art, especially Salvador Dali, and owned some prints from different artists.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents E. Phil and Marguerite Smith, and is survived by many cousins. Charles elected to be cremated and there will be a memorial service at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Kansas City, Mo., on Friday, November 20, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. His ashes will be interred in St. Andrews Episcopal Church columbarium.
Memorials can be made to the St. Andrews Episcopal Church or the Charles A. Smith Memorial Fund in the Community Foundation for Cloud County, PO Box 187, Concordia, Kansas 66901.
