Darell “Dean” Sorell, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, June 18, 2019, at his home.

Born February 17, 1942, in St. Joseph, Kansas, he was the son of Emery Sorell and Rena (Paquette) Payeur. He was raised in St. Joseph and Clyde, Kansas, graduating from Clyde High School in 1959. He began his career as a stocker in the grocery business in 1959.

He was united in marriage to Rama Kay Knox on November 28, 1963, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Concordia, Kansas, before moving to Winfield in 1973 to open a new Boogaart's Food Store, as the store manager. In 2007 he retired from Apple Market Grocery Store, after being in the grocery business for over 48 years.

Dean was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He also served as a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Dean was a supporter of local 4-H kids, a member of the Rotary Club and the Winfield Chamber of Commerce.

Dean's hobbies included doing yard work, watching Royals baseball on TV and cheering for Kansas State football and basketball teams.

His family includes his wife Rama of Winfield; children, Mark Sorell and wife, Traci McClellan-Sorell of Wagoner, Okla., and Misty Sorell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his sister Sandy Brown of McLoud, Okla.; his two grandchildren, Rylee Nagar and Carlos Sorell.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Chartier.

A rosary will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m. and a funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield, Kansas. Interment will follow on Saturday, June 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Cemetery in St. Joseph, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Dean’s name for Guardians of St Joseph Church Foundation, PO Box 301, Clyde, KS 66938 and for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
