DEAN ROBERT (BOB) CUNNINGHAM

Dean Robert (Bob) Cunningham, Glen Elder, passed away at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit on November 25, 2018, at the age of 88. He was born June 23, 1930, in Richmond, Kansas to Dean and Hazel Anderson Cunningham.
Bob graduated from Glen Elder High School, attended Sterling College and served in the National Guard. He met and soon married Margaret Ruth Way on September 8, 1950 at Pleasant View United Methodist Church. They celebrated 61 years together until she passed away in 2011. To this union two sons were born, John Dean and David Bruce.
Bob and Margaret resided in Glen Elder, Beloit and Jamestown. In 1956, they acquired the Jamestown Telephone Exchange where Bob worked with his father to run the family business. In 1977, they moved back to Glen Elder to take over management of Cunningham Telephone Company. Bob served as president of the company for over 30 years until he retired and turned management over his two sons. After retirement, Bob and Margaret spent many years traveling with friends. They spent 22 years wintering at their second home in Yuma, Arizona. Those years made many happy memories.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing, especially with his family. He also enjoyed reading books about home improvement and taught himself myriad things. Up for any challenge, Bob was eager to help his family and friends with all of their projects as well. In his later years, as his eye sight diminished, he enjoyed listening to western audiobooks and revealed in visiting with company. He was an active member of the Glen Elder Christian Church and served as a Deacon and Trustee for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Shirley (Walter) Klus. He leaves to mourn his passing with his sons, John (Janet) Cunningham, David (Brenda) Cunningham; grandchildren, Brent (Jessica) Cunningham, Terry (Crystal) Cunningham, all of Glen Elder, Kelsey (Matt) Lewis, Lenexa, and Keah Cunningham, Lawrence; seven great-grandchildren, Drew, Tanna, Bailee, Kylan, Jace, Quentin and Elyce; sister, Phyllis (Jack) Dear; and sister-in-law, Judy (Jerry) Dean, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6 at the Glen Elder Christian Church. Cremation has been chosen and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Church or Holt International. Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
