FRED DEARMOND

Fred DeArmond, age 83, of Concordia, KS, left this earthly life on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, Concordia.  He was born on Dec. 19, 1935 at his grandparent’s home in Pittsburg, KS to Wally E. & Helen (Magie) DeArmond.

Fred attended schools in Pittsburg and graduated from high school in 1954.  He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical arts.  He married Nancy J. Pasini on June 9, 1957 in Pittsburg, KS.  Fred and Nancy moved to Concordia in 1958 when Fred took a job with The Kansan newspaper.  In 1963, Fred, along with Dallas and Nancy Nading purchased The Kansan newspaper and Fred continued to work at the paper until Sept. 1983 when he sold his interest to the Nadings.  Fred then worked as a bus driver for USD 333 and Christensen Oil until his retirement in 2001.

Fred was a past member of the Concordia Jaycees, a past President for the Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge & Moose Lodge.   He also was a past officer for the Concordia Chamber of Commerce.  Fred was a member of the First Christian Church.

Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy, Concordia; sons, William F. DeArmond (Christina), Eudora & Greg DeArmond (Carla), Loveland, CO; daughter, Kristi Fuller (Kenny), Salina; brothers, Clifford DeArmond (Loretta), Oak Creek, WI & William E. DeArmond (Mary), Abilene; grandchildren, Mark DeArmond, Brianne Walker, Timothy DeArmond, Brandon DeArmond & Carli DeArmond & 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tues., February 26, 2019 at the First Christian Church, Concordia.  Burial of the cremains will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.  Friends may sign the register book on Mon., Feb. 25, 2019 from 10 am to 8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-8 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Kindred Hospice or the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.  For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com
