GARY CHARLES RYSER

Colonel Gary C. Ryser, USAF Ret., died following a short illness on October 8, 2019, at the Windemere Home in San Antonio, Texas. Gary was born on July 19, 1938, at Cuba, Kansas, to Verlin and Agnes (Cibolski) Ryser.
Following graduation from the Concordia Public High School, Gary entered the Air Force in 1956. He received an appointment to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1961 and graduated from the academy in 1964 with a rank of Second Lieutenant. He served active duty as a pilot during the Vietnam War. Gary retired from the Air Force in February 1988.
He married Judy Berndt at LaJuanta, Colorado, on August 2, 1964. After retiring from the Air Force, they lived in Parker, Colo., before moving to San Antonio, Texas.
Gary is survived by his wife Judy; daughters, Candice (Hector) Trevino and Shannon (Brad) Courtaney; son Dustin (Melinda) Ryser; grandchildren, Hector Aaron and Chace Trevino, Kathleen , Daniel, Nathan, and Janci Courtaney, and Warren and Jakob Ryser; brothers, Dan (Marsha) Ryser, San Antonio, Texas, and Dick (Beth) Ryser, Lenexa, Kan.; sisters, Margaret (Perry) Gile, Beatrice, Neb., Pam Kelly, Omaha, Neb., MaryDean (Darrell) Nelson, Concordia, Kan., Annette (Mike) Gallagher, Concordia, Kan., Glenna (Larry) Heald, Concordia, Kan., Lesley Ann (Jim) Lewis, Manhattan, Kan., and Jan Stiner, Floresville, Texas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, four nieces and one nephew.
Memorial services will be held in Parker, Colo., at the Encompass Church on November 1. Burial service will be at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., with full military honors.
Family suggests memorials to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to donor's choice.
