Jean A. Wilcox, age 77, of Concordia, Kan., entered into rest on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on August 31, 1942, in Westmoreland, Kan., to Glenn and Helen (Stevenson) Gordon.
She was a 1960 graduate of Wamego High School. She married Richard Wilcox in Wamego, Kansas, at the First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death.
Jean attended several colleges where she received 3 different Master's degrees. She attended Kansas State University, California State University, Long Beach, where she received her Master's of Archeology, Claremont School of Theology, Claremont, California, where she received her Master's of Theology, and St. Paul’s School of Theology, in Overland Park, Kansas, where she received her Master's of Divinity.
Jean ministered in education within the United Methodist Church in Concordia. She also worked for Stortz’s Upholstery and Country Cousins Fabric Store, both of Concordia. She was also a seamstress working from home, knitting hats, making quilts.
Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a Sunday School Teacher, and also served as Director of Christian Education in different churches and volunteered at Neighbor to Neighbor.
She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crafts, and wrote several books throughout her life.
Jean is survived by her son, Branson Wilcox, Concordia, Kan.; a sister, Sue Gordon, Wamego, Kan.; a brother, David Gordon, Emmett, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
It was Jean’s wishes to be cremated and a Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia, Kan., with Rev. Melanie Adams officiating.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Neighbor to Neighbor, in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.chaputbuoy.com.
