A Closer Walk
As we begin to navigate this brand new year, and desiring to keep ourselves on the straight and narrow, it would be beneficial to us if we remind ourselves who our God is as we try to make progress in our walk with our Lord. Here is a verse that may be helpful. "For I proclaim the name of the Lord; Ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock! His work is perfect, for all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He," Deuteronomy 32:3-4 NASB.
The God we serve, which is the only true and living God, is just, faithful, righteous, upright, and without injustice. If anyone ever asks us what the Lord lacks we may rightly say that He lacks injustice. He is also lacking in iniquity. And hallelujah for both of those things. Our God is just; a God of Justice. "For the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him," Isaiah 30:18 NASB.
Our God is a God of faithfulness. "The Lord's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness," Lamentations 3:22-23 NASB. The Lord's lovingkindnesses never cease. How long is never? Will His lovingkindness ever cease? Never!
Our God is a God of righteousness. "Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Thy law is truth," Psalm 119:142 NASB. "The Lord is righteous in all His ways, And kind in all His deeds," Psalm 145:17 NASB. "Declare and set forth your case; Indeed let them consult together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me. A righteous God and a Savior; there is none except Me," Isaiah 45:21 NASB. He is righteous because He is holy. He is holy because He is righteous.
Our God is upright. "To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him," Psalm 92:15 NASB. Our Lord is an upright God. Why? Because there is no unrighteousness in Him. Another thing He is lacking is unrighteousness.
So our God is just, faithful, righteous, upright, and without injustice. If we remind ourselves of these things frequently it may help us to keep on the straight and narrow. And isn't that a desirable thing to do?
"Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father. There is no shadow of turning with thee. Thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not. As thou hast been thou forever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
