A Closer Walk

“I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked that men should fear Him. That which is has been already, and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by,” Ecclesiastes 3:14-15 NASB. Everything that God does will remain forever. Our Lord works in eternity. The things He does are eternal. That is why the Bible says that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever,” Hebrews 13:8 NASB. Our Lord Jesus, the second member of the Godhead Trinity, is eternal. Thus, we can have absolute faith and confidence in Him; and in our Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit as well.

That which is has been already, and that which will be has already been. Another way of saying this as Ecclesiastes does in another passage is, “...there is nothing new under the sun,” Ecclesiastes1:9 NASB. Think about this, with the exception of a few meteorites there is nothing here on planet earth that has not always been here. So how have we progressed from living in caves and walking everywhere we go to living in houses and driving automobiles? Our God has helped us and guided us to figure out how to make things that were already here work together to build all that we have. Just imagine someone somewhere figuring out that a particular dirt contains stuff that can be smelted and made into iron. And iron can be fashioned into weapons and tools.
Think about the automobile and everything that comes together to make it work. Combustion, hydraulics, gearing, electronics, fuel mixtures, ignition, steel, plastics and so on. All this had to be figured out and invented before we came along so that we can enjoy it now. I believe that the automobile and the infrastructure that goes with it, is mankind's greatest invention. If we decided to go to the Gulf of Mexico we could fill up the car with gas and head out; and we would have a reasonable expectation that we would arrive with no breakdowns or trouble along the way. I can remember going on vacation as a child in our 1955 Oldsmobile. The first thing Dad would pack would be his toolbox, in case we had a breakdown. Same with our 1962 Oldsmobile. Whether we were headed for a little town in northwestern New Mexico called Shiprock to visit grandparents, or to Amarillo in the panhandle of Texas to visit an aunt and uncle and their family, Dad packed his toolbox. Maybe your experience was similar.
Do we need to do that now? Likely not. Why? Because our God has guided us to improve the vehicles and their various components along with the roads so that we don't have a breakdown. The various components have been made simpler and easier to bolt on. An example: we replaced the coil packs on our car's V6 engine. The coil pack replaces the spark plugs, the points, the rotor, and so on. One thing replaces many individual parts. Someone somewhere figured this all out.
With all these improvements around us we likely have less tedium and more time to focus on our family, and God and His kingdom. Thereby making it possible for us to praise Him, serve Him, and serve our brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as the community we live in, more and more often.
“Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart, In the company of the upright and in the assembly. Great are the works of the Lord; They are studied by all who delight in them. Splendid and majestic is His work; And His righteousness endures forever. He has made His wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate,” Psalm 111:1-4 NASB.
