A Closer Walk

We are living in strange times. Those born before 1918 being the exception, none of us have experienced a global pandemic. We have lived through ebola, H1N1 flu, SARS, etc., but all those were localized and not global. But like those, this current coronavirus outbreak is temporary. It will pass. The Spanish Flu of 1918 (our last global pandemic if memory serves) passed, and it was over. Even the Black Death, the bubonic plague which swept through and caused the deaths of a large part of the people of Europe in the fourteenth century, passed and it was over. This coronavirus will also pass and it will be over with. We just don't know when.

It is worth repeating, even though most of us already know this, that what surprises us doesn't surprise God. There is never a time when something happens and our Lord stumbles backward a few steps, sucks in His breath and says,"Oh no! What do I do now?" What surprises us does not surprise our Lord. "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus," Philippians 4:19 KJV. Our God will supply all our need. According to what is in our bank account? Nooo. According to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Many of us have seen Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx on television. That is God supplying our need. They are talking to other doctors and scientists to get advice, guidance, and hopefully gain wisdom. That is also our Lord providing for our need. Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx are advising our President and Vice President to help them know what to do and which actions to take. Quarantine? Recommended by the health professionals. Length of the quarantine? Guided by the health professionals. Our God is supplying our need by providing the people and things (masks, drugs, ventilators, etc.) that we need to defeat this. General Motors has started producing ventilators instead of Chevys. That is what happened during World War 2; and that is how we won the war. Our ingenuity and industrial might were brought to bear. During that war even Singer Sewing Machine Company stopped making sewing machines and started producing small arms.
We will whip this. As we experience more and more warm and sunny days maybe that will help. Colds and flu are most prevalent during the winter months. It is even referred to as "cold and flu season," like it was basketball or something. Distancing ourselves seems to help slow the spread. We will get through this. Truckers, God bless 'em, are still running up and down the highways to get products to stores for us to buy. Store clerks, doctors and nurses, police and firemen, are all going to work every day to look after us and help take care of us. We are looking out for our families and friends and neighbors. This has built a spirit of unity; which, by the way, is the root word of the word community. We will get through this.
These times in which we are currently living, though strange and what we would consider not normal, are temporary. And they will pass. And in the mean time our God will continue to supply our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
