A Closer Walk

Why do you follow Christ? Why do you trust Him for your future as well as your day to day living? What has the Lord Jesus Christ done for you? What has He done with you? "But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence," 1 Peter 3:15 NASB.
Always be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you. If someone asked you today why your hope is in Christ what would you tell them? Here is what the Apostle Paul offered, "...for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day,” 2 Timothy 1:12 KJV. Might be a hymn in there somewhere.
Whom have you believed? Are you persuaded, convinced, that He is able to keep whatever you have entrusted to Him? Your eternity? Your future before eternity? Your day to day? If you can trust the Lord Jesus Christ for your eternity, then surely you can trust Him for your day to day. "For we walk by faith, not by sight," 2 Corinthians 5:7 NASB. Perhaps you might want to think about your own personal account of the hope that is in you, and organize your thoughts so as to be able to make a defense to anyone who asks you.
So where do we go from here? First, each of us must settle in our own mind and spirit whom we have believed, and whom we are trusting. Second, we can look back on our lives to see where and when the Lord Jesus helped us, walked with us, or intervened for us. If you had a very sick family member, or trouble with work, or any number of other possibilities, those are the times and places to look first to see the hand of God in your life. He is intimately involved in our lives between events such as these as well, so remember to reflect on those times also. My beloved made a timeline of her life as part of a Bible study she was in several years ago. As she looked back and wrote things down she saw how Christ had been there all along the way. At every turn, at every event, and even as she put one foot in front of the other daily, Jesus was there. Amazing!
If you look back and reflect you will remember situations or circumstances that the Lord helped you through. Sometimes it is only in looking back that we can see God's hand. Probably sometime in your forties or fifties you began to recognize how the things you have been through and the things you have done have worked together to mold you into the child of God that you are today. You might even notice that there seemed to be some kind of a plan for you.
So what defense would you give when asked to give an account for the hope that is in you?
