Letter to the Editor 10-12-18

Dear editor,
As we Kansans prepare to vote on November 6, we must stand up to the person who has made himself a key player in our state's 2018 election – Donald Trump. He has done this by embracing his favorites and by trashing those who would oppose him.
Trump seems to take special delight in meddling in Kansas politics. His endorsement of Kris Kobach led to the defeat of Jeff Colyer in the Republican gubernatorial primary. As governor, Colyer deserved some credit for attempting to remedy the harm done by Brownback, but lost by 343 votes.
Trump was back in Kansas for a rally on October 6, meddling again and endorsing his true believer Kris Kobach for governor.
What are we Kansans to do to prevent a resumption of Brownback-era politics or worse under Kobach? Some will vote for Greg Orman, who ran against Senator Pat Roberts in 2014. Orman has made a fortune, but has no experience in governing. In the heated politics of 2018, your vote for Greg Orman becomes a vote for Kris Kobach.
We must elect State Senator Laura Kelly for governor and State Senator Lynn Rogers for lieutenant governor. Kelly and Rogers know that, historically Kansas has provided highway, schools and services through a fair mix of income, sales and property taxes. Since 2004, Laura Kelly has a record of working with her fellow state senators and with state representatives for the good of all.
Joe Detrixhe.
