Letter to the Editor 12-6-19

Dear editor,

With the year drawing to a close, the Faculty Association at Cloud County CommunityCollege has been reflecting on the multitude of achievements of the current academic administration. The leadership of Dr. Douglas, Pedro Leite, and Amber Knottgen has invigorated us to push forward into the new decade with optimism and with the drive to continue our college mission of enhancing the lives of our community. As such, we wanted to write this letter to celebrate our pride in their drive to new community partnerships, improvements at the college, and recognitions Dr. Douglas has received.

Over the past year and a half, the school and community have seen great strides towards reestablishing and rebuilding relationships. The administration has emphasized community service and engagement for students and faculty, explored the development of new technical programs at both campuses, partnered with USD 333 for both facilities and education, and partnered with OCCK to expand the services of the 81 Connection. These partnerships help enhance lives and bring education to the area.

In addition to these communities, the administration has also been making strides toward improving college facilities and employee lives through a bevy of efforts such as maximizing financial efficiency, increasing the minimum hourly pay rate for employees, established an Enrollment Management Plan, and beginning the construction of the new Ag facility.

Dr. Douglas has already been recognized for her service on a regional and national level. She received the honor of Distinguished College President for the region from PTK, and the Paragon Award for New Presidents.

Change is difficult, but it is also a constant promise in any workplace, college, community, or in life. With the current administration at the helm, we feel secure that we’re steering in the right direction for both the college and the community at large.

Warm regards and well wishes for the New Year,

Dr. Gwen Carnes & The Faculty Association
