Letter to the Editor 3-1-19

Dear Editor,
This has been a monumental but sad week in America. The United States Senate voted down a bill that would protect the life of a baby born alive during an abortion. The bill marked as the "Born Alive" bill. Only three Democrats voted for the bill.
The reason for my letter to the editor is to shed some Biblical and historical light on what just took place with the rejection of this bill.
Before I share my thoughts concerning the bill, I need to be completely transparent with those who read this letter. I am a born again, grateful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe the Bible to be flawless, impeccable, Word of God. His Word is His bond with man and mankind will have the blessings of God to the same degree that we honor God's Word in obedience as nations, governments, families, and individuals.
The Old Testament is filled with example after example of early Israel reaping a whirlwind of God's judgment when they chose to act in direct disobedience to warnings that God gave them. In the book of 1 Kings, Chapter 18, God sent the prophet Elijah to speak out against Israel and the prophets of Baal. Israel for the most part, turned its back on God and was worshiping the pagan gods Baal and Molak and Asherah. Israel had descended so far down the "Sin Ladder" that the people were offering their children as burned human sacrifices to these pagan false gods.
Elijah called the people of Israel and the prophets of Baal to Mount Carmel for a show of power between the true God of creation and the pagan gods the Israelites were worshiping.
Let's look at the box score after the game. Elijah called down from heaven and totally destroyed 450 prophets of Baal. The pagan prophets had no power over Elijah; their so-called god was silent as they perished under the power of the God of Elijah. Israel repented of their sin, idolatry, and human sacrifice and was spiritually restored.
Hemingway once said, "The only thing we have learned from history, is that we don't learn from it." There is another enlighting quote that goes like this, "Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it."
Historical Truth
There are five powerful empires addressed in the Bible and world history that have ruled the earth, Babylon, Persia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Each of these empires had a  tremendous influence over the world of its day. All of them believed that their power and grandeur would last indefinitely and that they were too big to fall from power, but history proves that they were wrong indeed. Looking back we can find that these powerful empires had five things in common that brought their demise. What were those five characteristics and how do they relate to America right now?
Polarization divided the populous and the government fell into gridlock, became self-serving, and did what was right in its own eyes.
Drug and alcohol addiction swept through the empire and became the norm.
The Empire began to persecute the righteous, the believers in the true God.
Sexual immorality spread throughout the Empire like a plague and the family unit crumbled.
The Empire began to kill its young  at an alarming rate.
Sound familiar? Ring any bells?
I love my country. I do not want to see American sliding down the slippery slope away from God. The Bible tells us it's on now. My family is a military family. I have always been a patriot and I'm fighting for American right now as I draft this letter. I'm not concerned with being politically correct. My job and passion at this very moment are to be obedient to God and His Word, to blow a trumpet in Zion and sound a Biblical warning against the abominations. Biblical history has already fired a warning shot across the bow of the ship called America. What makes the governing body of this country think that American can get by with what no other empire has gotten by with?
On an average day in the USA, 2,700 innocent children will die in abortion camps, over 65,000,000 since 1973. For hundreds of years now, American has had the blessing of God. This country was founded in its infancy because our founders wanted the freedom to worship the true God. Since 1900, 90 cents of every dollar given to support the Gospel around the world has come from America. America rose to the forefront of WW2 to stop Adolph Hitler from enslaving the world and destroying the Jewish race. Seventy million people died in that war. Yes, we have been a God blessed people in America, but the America of today is not the America of yesterday.
What America values now has changed, the ideology has changed, the view of God has changed.  American has opened its door and asked God to step out.
