Student Luminaries

ATCHISON — Alex Stenberg, Clyde, graduated Cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Evangelization & Catechesis from Benedictine College.
Benedictine graduated 305 students at the end of the academic year, including 22 with graduate degrees.
The graduating senior heard former Kansas City Royal and five-time Major League Baseball All-Star Mike Sweeney, who delivered the commencement address.

EMPORIA — Derek Reese is one of 12 students named Shepherd Scholars for the 2019-20 academic year at Emporia State University.
Reese is a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Clyde.
Each year since 1995, the Shepherd Scholars Program has honored Emporia State's most outstanding students, as determined through a robust and competitive application process.
Eligible students have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, met, at a minimum, the traditional definition of junior classification by having completed at least 60 credit hours at the time of application and have at least two semesters worth of coursework remaining before graduation.

Lane Sorell graduated Cum laude on May 18 from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science through the College of Engineering. He makes his home in Vancouver, Washington, with his wife Sammi, a graduate student at Washington State University. Lane is the son of Dr. Sean and Lisa Sorell, Manhattan, and son-in-law of Dr. David and Yvonne Grieger, also of Manhattan. His grandparents are Kenneth and Mary Ann Palmquist, Concordia, and the late Don and Phillis Sorell, Clyde.
