February 20, 1970

Cablecom-General office in Concordia was holding an open house in honor of their new modern building at 407 West 6th Street... U.S. Air Force Sergeant Keith Edwards Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Edwards of Concordia, was on duty as an armament systems specialist at Udorn Royal Thai AFB, Thailand... the fire department answered an alarm from the automatic laundry operated by Ryland Hamilton on West 6th Street where fire was reported shooting up behind a dryer... Mrs. Annie O. Wood of Concordia celebrated her 90th birthday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. E. McKenzie.

The COR Division of OCCK, Inc. held a ribbon cutting and open house to observe the 25th anniversary of COR in Concordia... Nancy Letourneau, Concordia, senior in speech and anthropology at Kansas State University, was a member of the university's speech team which won first place at both halves of the Oklahoma-West Texas Speech Tournament, and took home first place in the penathon category... Tom Simoneau had been named the new produce merchandising director for the Boogaarts Food Stores and Mike Roudybush was named to replace Simoneau as store manager in Concordia.

Alumni and friends of Cloud County Community College displayed their support for the college as they donated $22,697 to the Foundation's general scholarship fund during the Verizon Alumni Telefund... Ike Uri participated in the Kansas State High School Activities association State Piano Festival at Wichita State University... Phyllis Moon took first place at pitch at the Concordia Senior Center... wheat was selling at $4.35, corn was $3.15, and milo was $3.13 per bushel on local markets.

After budget cuts led to the termination of USD 333 school resource officer Doug Thoman, the Concordia City Commission approved funding his salary through the end of the school year... the public was invited to a special meeting of the Cloud County Genealogical Society when the family of Velma Hudsonpillar reviewed the published book of Velma's memories of the residents and happenings in Arion Township... James and Marjorie Blazek were observing their 50th wedding anniversary... wheat was selling at $5.21, corn was $3.61, and milo was $4.79 per bushel on local markets.

The Cloud County Sheriff's Department was honored with a AAA Kansas Community Traffic Safety Award for their work in keeping roadways in their cities and county safe through a variety of initiatives and programs... after another three inches of snow fell overnight, Concordia had received 33.1 inches of snow during the winter—17.1 inches above normal... wheat was selling at $4.35, corn was $3.32, and milo was $3.22 per bushel on local markets.
