Flags flew at half mast and businesses were closed on July 5 for the funeral of Marine Lance Corporal Terry Householter, who was killed during a company search and clear mission in Vietnam... Abdul Sabour Ghiacy of Kabul, Afghanistan, was chosen as the new foreign exchange student at Concordia High School during the 1969-70 school year, and would make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Reeves... Miss Ruth Margaret St. Pierre and Joe Allan Fakler had exchanged wedding vows at the First Baptist church in Clyde... Mr. and Mrs. Jim Haist were the parents of a daughter born at St. Joseph Hospital.

Cloud County Sheriff Larry Bergstrom told the Cloud County commissioners that he was losing his part-time help and asked for approval of hiring Stephen Kemp... former Concordian and creator of Alpine Video Productions, Wendell Ganstrom received the Business of the Year award from the Hiawatha Foundation for Economic Development... Seth Vernon, Garrett Farha and Jared Goedert pitched one inning each for the American Legion Peewee baseball team when they posted a 10-0 win over Subway-Oldies in a game at Jensen Field.

Pat Murk, of The Citizens National Bank was voted the Best Bank Teller in Concordia... students from Concordia named to the Dean's Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University were Paige Evans, Christina Fabarez, Madison Menard and Andrew Timme... wheat was selling at $6.77, corn was $3.95, and milo was $3.90 per bushel on local markets.
