October 11, 1969

The One Big Meeting” was the name given to the Extension Council meeting, with the purpose of the meeting being Extension Council elections of a man for agricultural representative, a lady for home economics representative, and a man or woman for 4-H representative... the entertainment part of the Extension Council meeting included the Harmony Clouds (Cloud County barbershop chorus); a reading by Don Lambert; a new color movie, “The Inside Track,” provided by the Union Pacific railroad; and a marimba solo by Mrs. Robert Weigand... Bike's Burger Bar advertised a pork tender for 55 cents.

Concordia city commissioners authorized City Clerk Verna Ferguson to work with the Cloud County Historical Museum for the transfer and storage of old city meeting minutes and records... at the meeting of the Presbyterian Women, Wilma Johnson, sewing chairman, displayed baby blankets made by the group to be sent to Mwandi Hospital, Zambia, Africa... as part of Fire Prevention Week, the Concordia Firefighters were making appearances at preschools to talk about fire safety.

The honorable G. Joseph Pierron Jr., a judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals, was the speaker for the Talk of the Month Club, held at the Cloud County Community College cafeteria... the Concordia eighth grade volleyball team won the NCKL tournament... Concordia Area Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon cutting for Fabric Essentials, formerly Country Cousins... wheat was selling at $4.08, corn was $3.12, and milo was $3.02 per bushel on local markets.

The opening of the new exhibit at the Orphan Train Museum, “Postcards from Kansas: Wish you were here!” was kicked off with a wine reception where Shaley George, the new curator, was introduced... Bob and Lorene Steimel, representing the Community Foundation for Cloud County, attended a two-day Annual Conference for the Kansas Association of Community Foundations in Wichita... wheat was selling at $5.36, corn was $3.07, and milo was $3.37 per bushel on local markets.

Cloud County Community College began offering adult education and GED classes... 42 motorcycles participated in the 18th Annual Cloud County Toy Run... Paul Rundus was chosen as Concordia High School's Student of the Month for October... Central National Bank staff donated $225 to Heart Choices, raising the money through their Blue Jeans for Charity program... wheat was selling at $4.67, corn was $3.19, and milo was $2.94 per bushel on local markets.
