Abilene shuts down CHS in doubleheader sweep

Limited to just five hits, the Concordia High School softball team dropped both ends of a North Central Kansas League doubleheader to Abilene Tuesday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Abilene's Emily Burt shut Concordia down, allowing just two hits in a 12-0 victory in the first game of the twinbill.
Burt tossed a three-hitter in game two as the Cowgirls blanked the Panthers 13-0 in five innings.
Abilene grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one.
Two runs in the four inning gave the Cowgirls a 4-0 advantage.
Abilene added four runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to go up 12-0.
The game ended after the sixth inning because of the 10-run rule.
Concordia managed just a first-inning single by Rachelle Anderson and a second-inning single by Kira Kearn off of Burt.
Hailey Budke pitched all six innings in taking the loss for Concordia. She gave up 12 runs, six earned, on 12 hits, struck out one and walked two.
Burt was 3-for-4 at the plate with five runs batted in for the Cowgirls. She hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and had a two-run double in the sixth.
Abilene got home runs by Burt and Hannah Willey in the 13-0 victory in game two.
Willey hit a solo home run in a three-run first inning.
Abilene extended the lead to 7-0 with four runs in the third inning.
The Cowgirls tacked on four runs in the fourth inning, that included a two-run home run by Burt, and led 11-0.
Two runs in the fifth inning put Abilene up 13-0.
The game ended after the fifth inning.
Burt struck out two and didn't walk any in posting a second straight shutout. She also had two hits and drove in three runs.
McKenzie Widen pitched the first three innings for Concordia in suffering the loss. She gave up seven runs, five earned, on just two hits and walked six.
Budke allowed six runs, five earned, on 10 hits, struck out one and walked one in two innings.
Kearn, Kendall Reynolds and Allison Poore had the only hits in the game for the Panthers.
Concordia will host Riley County in a non-league doubleheader on Thursday.
