CCCC’s Trejo places fourth

LINDSBORG — The Cloud County Community College wrestling team had seven competitors win two more matches in the Bethany College Swede Open on Saturday.
The event included wrestlers from NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA schools.
Cloud County’s Elwin Trejo, ranked fourth in the 285-pound class in the NJCAA poll, placed fourth in the meet.
Trejo pinned Nick Feely, Neosho Community College in 1:20 and Lyndon Flax, Fort Hays State University in 3:36 and then won a 9-2 decision over Angelo Damian, Hastings College.
Korinthian Nabors, Lindenwood College, defeated Trejo, 12-6. He pinned Marlique Trumbo, unattached, and then lost by fall to Lee Herrington, University of Nebraska-Kearney in the third-place match.
Carlos Sanchez, also wrestling at 285 pounds for Cloud County, beat Marco Valdivia, Hastings, 7-5. He was pinned by Herrington, pinned Justin Mcgough, Labette Community College, in one minute and then lost by fall to Trumbo.
Jose Lopez, also at 285, lost a 7-2 decision to Gunnar Gardner, Hastings. He pinned Alex Pena, Neosho, and lost by fall to Jack Sutton, Nebraska-Kearney.
Blayne Harris went 3-2 in the 125-pound class for Cloud County. He pinned Gabe Eades, Labette; lost a 13-4 major decision to Jackson Nielsen, Nebraska-Kearney; defeated Tyler McKeefery, Ottawa University, 9-6; won by medical forfeit over Mason Turner, Fort Hays State, and lost 7-1 to Parker Avendano, Newman University.
Toby Gavette, 125, lost by technical fall, 23-3, to Josh Portillo, Nebaska-Kearney. He won a 10-1 major decision over David Boucher, Benedictine, and pinned Yves Worou, Bethany, before losing by fall to Kavika Aholelei, Hastings.
Blake Leiszler, a sophomore from Concordia, picked up three wins in the 133-pound class. He defeated Kaden Goff, Bethany, 7-2; lost 7-4 to Conrad Cole, Fort Hays State; defeated Alex Segarra, Nebraska-Kearney, 7-0; defeated Jaxon Miller, Oklahoma Wesleyan, 4-0; and lost by fall to DeKhyale McFarland, Neosho.
Aiden Connors, 133, lost by fall to Caden Emmot, Central Christian, and lost by fall to Ryan Wahl, Ottawa.
Chandler Schoenberger, 133, lost by fall to Tyler Lawley, Newman, and an 8-0 major decision to Miller.
Albert Werden, 133, 9-4 to Bobby Robinson, Ottawa, and lost a 10-1 major decision to Dylan Priddy, Labette.
Joel Ostrom went 2-2 in the 141-pound class. He lost by technical fall, 18-0, to Wesley Dawkins, Nebraska-Kearney; pinned Blake Hall, Central Christian, in 23 seconds; pinned Nick Coria, York College in 1:22; and lost a narrow 4-3 decision to Ryan Johnson, Nebraska-Kearney.
Nate Normandin, 149 pounds, was 2-2 on the day. He lost by fall to Gabriel McDuffie, unattached; defeated Austin Mitchell, Hastings College, in overtime; defeated Mouhammad Sangariev, Colby Community College; and lost by fall to Garrett Messimor, unattached.
Tristin Hauck, 149 pounds, lost 9-3 to Messimor; defeated Tristan Snover, Midland University, 6-4; and lost by fall to Ryan Johnson, Nebraska-Kearney.
Brandon Rohr, 157 pounds, lost a 9-1 major decision to Cole Denny, Neosho County, and lost 10-4 to Brenner Vogan, unattached.
Quentin Jiner, 174 pounds, lost by fall to Wyatt Hayes, Nebraska-Kearney, and lost 9-8 to Logan Allen, Neosho County.
Micah Sterling, 184 pounds, lost by fall to Chase Pywell, Bethany; pinned Mason McCarty, Central Christian; and lost by fall to Tyson Vilalpando, Neosho County.
Kevin Murry, 197 pounds, lost by fall to Andrew Demos, Nebraska-Kearney, and lost by fall to Andrew Leitold, Labette.
Cloud County will wrestle at home for the first time this season when it hosts Wayland Baptist in a dual at 7 p.m. Thursday.
