CCCC completes sweep of Tigers

Putting up 20 runs, the Cloud County Community College baseball team finished off a four game sweep of Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College with two wins on Saturday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Cloud County, now 10-1 this season, edged Marshalltown 8-6 in the first game of the doubleheader, and then rolled to a 12-1 victory in the second game.
The Thunderbirds downed the Tigers 6-5 and 9-2 in the first two games of the series on Friday.
Trevor Stevens hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Cloud County a 4-0 lead in game one on Saturday.
Marshalltown would scored one run in the second inning and two in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 4-3.
Ed Scott hit a solo home run for Cloud County in the bottom of the fourth.
The T-Birds would tack on two more runs in the inning, and led 7-3.
Stevens scored on a wild pitch.
A sacrifice fly by Noah Olson got Cole Jackson home.
Marshalltown made it 7-4 with a run in the top of the fifth inning.
A solo home run by Olson in the bottom of the fifth put Cloud County up 8-4.
The Tigers tacked on two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyler Jans allowed four runs, three earned, on just two hits, struck out four and walked three in five innings to get the win.
Bradan Pierce worked two innings and gave up two unearned runs on two hits. He struck out four.
Stevens drove in four runs for the T-Birds.
Olson had two hits and knocked in two runs.
Joseph Karall and Javier Cruz combined on a one-hitter as Cloud County thumped Marshalltown 12-1 in five innings in game two.
Karall pitched four and a third innings and gave up one unearned run on one hit. He struck out five and walked one.
Cruz struck out one in two-thirds of an inning.
Clayton Loranger doubled to drive in Olson for the T-Birds' first run in the first inning.
Cloud County pushed the lead to 4-0 with three runs in the third inning.
Loranger drove in Olson with a single and scored on a base hit by Scott.
A single by Davis Pratt got Scott home.
Four runs in the fourth inning put the T-Birds up 8-0.
Olson had a two-run single, and Scott hit a two-run home run.
Marshalltown scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 8-1.
Cloud County ended the game with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Jaden Parsons singled home Pratt with the first run.
Jack Correll scored on a sacrifice fly by Olson.
Loranger hit a two-run home run. He had three hits in four at bats, drove in four runs and scored two.
Olson was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Scott had two hits, drove in three runs and scored two.
Pratt and Parsons had two hits each.
Game one on Friday was tied at 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Rice and Parsons led off the inning with singles and advanced on an error.
Loranger was intentionally walked to load the bases.
With two out, Griffin Larsen singled in the winning run.
Larsen broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
Cloud County added two more runs to go up 3-0.
Each team scored a run in the fourth inning, and the score was 4-1.
Marshalltown put up four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take its first lead at 5-4.
Cloud County tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth when Larsen doubled to drive in Nelson.
Josh Laukkanen pitched the first five innings for the T-Birds and gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out nine.
Trey Asher worked two scoreless innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Larsen had three hits and drove in three runs.
Scott knocked in two runs.
In the second game of the twinbill, the T-Birds took a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Jose Luna hit a solo home run in the inning.
A three-run home run by Scott in the fourth inning gave Cloud County a 6-0 cushion.
The T-Birds added two runs in the fifth inning, and led 8-0.
Each team scored a run in the sixth inning.
The Tigers tacked on one run in the ninth to make it 9-2.
Evan Wilde pitched six innings to get the win. He gave up one run on four hits, struck out nine and didn't walk any.
Jared Stuewe allowed one run on one hit, struck out three and walked one in one inning.
Scott was 3-for-4 at the plate. He drove in three runs and scored three.
Luna drove in two runs.
