CCCC cruises past Jacks, 125-68

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Breaking a school record for single game field goal percentage, the Cloud County Community College men's basketball team cruised to a 125-68 win over Dakota College of Bottineau in the opening round of the Hampton Inn Reiver Classic on Friday.
Cloud County (4-2) connected on 51 of 71 shots from the field for 71.8 percent. That bested the previous record of 70.5 percent (55 of 78) set against Northwest Missouri Community College during the 1994-95 season.
“Right now our scoring has to do with everyone buying into the speed and pace we want to play with,” Cloud County coach Jordan Altman said, “For the last two to three games now the speed and pace we've played with has allowed us extra possessions and extra shots, and tonight everything, including our three-pointers, were falling.”
Cloud County bolted to a 67-29 lead on Dakota College.
The Thunderbirds tacked on 58 points in the second half to 39 for the Jacks.
Eight Cloud County players scored in double figures led by sophomore guard Alvin Thompson with 20 points. He connected on 8 of 10 field goal attempts and three of five free throws.
Gabe Pieschl was 7 of 11 from the field in scoring 17 points for the T-Birds.
Sidy Sissoko made all six of his field goal attempts in scoring 13 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.
“Sidy benefits from that guard penetration, and was the recipient of a lot of great entry passes. Then he  did a great job of finishing,” Altman said, “He does such a great job for us defensively that it was great to see him get some points because a lot of the things he does for us don't show up in the stat sheets.”
Iyen Enaruna matched Sissoko with 13 points and grabbed a game high 12 rebounds.
Adetomi Ayilara was five for five from the field and scored 10 points.
Edoardo Del Cadia also scored 10 points.
Sophomore Brayden Day, who missed the first three games with  a injured ankle, finished with nine points and six rebounds.
“Brayden is a big part of this team. He's the glue and the work horse,” Altman said, “I was really happy to see him go out and get his legs back under him and get his confidence back.”
Nysir Scott also scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds.
Cloud County limited the Jacks to 35 percent (25 of 72) shooting, had a 49-23 rebounding advantage and forced 26 turnovers.
In the other game played Friday, host Iowa Western Community College downed Des Moines Area Community College, 88-81.
