CCCC splits with Seward County

The Cloud County Community College baseball team opened Jayhawk Conference West Division play by splitting a doubleheader with Seward County Community College Thursday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Seward County snapped the Thunderbirds' six-game winning streak with a 6-3 victory in game one of the twinbill.
Cloud County slipped past the Saints 3-1 in game two to give coach Eric Gilliland his 100th victory.
“I thought it was kind of a sluggish start to league play for us,” Gilliland said, “Seward came in and played well and got timely hits in game one and it proved to be the difference as they executed in places we didn't.”
Wyatt Grant scored on a single by KP Werner in the top of the first inning to give Seward County a 1-0 lead in game one.
Cloud County put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Ty Nelson scored on a ground ball by Griffin Larsen.
Jaden Parsons hit a solo home run.
The Saints went on top to stay, 5-2, with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Kase Johnson, Adam Berberich and Peter Goldy had run producing singles in the inning.
Berberich scored on a wild pitch.
Cloud County tacked on one run in the bottom of the inning when Larsen scored on a wild pitch.
Seward County made it a 6-3 game with a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Grant scored on a fly ball by Kase Johnson.
Josh Laukkanen took the loss. He gave up five runs on six hits, struck out five and walked two in four innings.
Trey Asher pitched two scoreless innings. He gave up two hits, struck out one and walked one.
Brayden Radcliffe allowed one run on two hits in one inning.
Three Seward County pitchers limited the T-Birds to two runs on three hits.
Game two was scoreless through two and a half innings.
Cloud County grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Alex Rice scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by Ed Scott.
Noah Olson scored on a wild pitch.
Shut out through four innings, the Saints cut the deficit in half with a run in the top of the fifth.
Goldy got home on a ground ball by Kason Haggard.
Scott singled to drive in Clayton Loranger in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Cloud County the 3-1 lead.
Evan Wilde pitched the first six innings to get the win. He gave up one unearned run on three hits, struck out three and walked one.
Bradan Pierce worked three scoreless innings for the save. He gave up three hits, struck out three and walked one.
Scott drove in two runs for the T-Birds, and Rice had two hits.
The two teams will play a doubleheader at Liberal on Saturday.
