CCCC track teams place fifth in indoor nationals

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Cloud County Community College men's and women's track and field team each placed fifth in the NJCAA Indoor Championships contested at Liberty University Indoor Track Complex.
Led by sophomore distance runner Santino Kenyi, the Cloud County men scored 47 points.
Iowa Central Community College won the team title with 118 points. Barton Community College was second with 99.5. South Plains College was third with 72.5 and New Mexico Junior College was fourth with 72.
The Cloud County women scored 49.5 points in the meet.
New Mexico Junior College easily won the meet with 160 points.
Iowa Central was second with 115. South Plains was third with 98 and Barton was fourth with 95.
Kenyi captured the lone individual championship for Cloud County in the meet by winning the 3,000-meter run with a school record time of 8:07.67. He also ran 4:04.89 to finish second in the mile run.
Courtney Lawrence bettered his own Cloud County school record in the shot put with a toss of 59-5 to place second.
Daniel Cope threw 56-3 to break the school record and finish fifth in the weight throw for the Thunderbirds.
Cloud County had Marcquiece Cade place fourth in the heptathlon with 4,711 points. Johan Cobena was eighth with 4,481 points.
Gabriel Chinya ran 2:31.06 to finish fourth in the 1,000-meter run.
Cloud County's 4x800 meter relay team of Habtamu Geta, Ablel Gebreselase, Saba Khvichava and Andres Hernandez placed fourth in 7:51.95.
The Cloud County women recorded three second-place finishes, including two by Mercy Ntia-Obong.
Ntia-Obong finished second in the 60-meter dash in 7.42 and in the 200-meter dash in 23.68.
Jacqueline Pokuaah had a leap of 19-6 ¼ to place second in the long jump. She was also fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-8 ¼. Samaj McGhee was sixth (36-9).
Aliya Hatton ran 8.72 to finish fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Sophie Jebose placed fourth in the pole vault by clearing 10-6.
McGhee made 5-3 ¼ and tied for fifth place in the high jump.
Cloud County's 4x800 relay team of Shackera Samuels, Kya Johnson, Pamela Milano and Tanya Harcum placed sixth in 9:51.07.
Marie Forbes threw 43-9 ¼ to place seventh in the shot put.
