CHS girls place fourth in league meet
CHAPMAN — Sophomore Jaida Koester recorded a top 10 finish to lead the Concordia High School girls' cross country team to a fourth-place finish in the North Central Kansas League meet on Thursday.
Koester turned in a time of 23:26.8 to place seventh in the race.
Concordia finished with 73 team points.
Wamego won the team title with 42 points. Marysville was second with 60 and Abilene was third with 72.
Senior Emma Losh ran 24:28.8 to place 11th for Concordia.
Harleigh Smith, a senior, was 13th for the Panthers in 25:11.1.
Freshman Megan Barr crossed in 21st place in 28:03.8.
Sophomore Moyra Barnes rounded out the top five for Concordia by finishing 26th in 30:15.1.
Peyton Johnson, a sophomore, was 28th in 30:54.7.
Taylor Briggs, Chapman, won the race with a time of 19:03.3.
The Concordia boys had two runners compete in the meet.
Sophomore Alan Garcia ran 19:25.5 to finish 15th.
Freshman Qwinter Zimmerman was 31st in 21:34.1.
Silas Miller, Marysville, was the individual champion in 17:41.0.
In the eighth grade boys' race, Concordia's Brandon Wahlmeier placed seventh in 13:23.7.
Jagger Johnson finished 14th in 14:32.0.
The Concordia eighth grade girls had Aubrey Stahlman place 10th in 15:41.4.
Concordia had six runners compete in the seventh grade boys' race, with three placing in the top 10.
Joel Gross was seventh in 14:10.0.
Isaias Irigoyen finished ninth in 14:32.2 and Draven Luecke was 10th in 14:51.3.
Gunner Barnes placed 13th in 15:13.5.
Danner Benfer was 20th in 16:32.1 and Joe Berk was 25th in 17:19.6.
Three Concordia runners placed in the top 10 in the seventh grade girls' race.
Hannah Bridwell ran 14:25.5 to finish sixth.
Mya Niehues was seventh in 14:25.9 and Lillian Nuss was eighth in 15:16.1.
McKayla Cherney finished 14th in 16:56.8.
The Concordia varsity runners will compete in the Class 4A regional meet at Prairie Ridge Cross Country Park in Hutchinson on October 24.
