CHS places ninth in Salina Central meet
SALINA — Competing against mostly Class 5A and 6A schools, the Concordia High School girls' golf team finished ninth in the Salina Central Invitational Tuesday at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Concordia posted a score of 215 in the nine-hole event.
Manhattan won the tournament with a score of 177.
Hays finished a close second with a 178 and Great Bend was third with a 183.
Junior Abby Donovan, coming off a win in the season opener, led Concordia with a 48.
“Abby struggled inside 50 yards and had a couple of errant balls that went into lateral penalty areas. She did birdie number seven, but it just wasn't enough to crack the top 10,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said.
Sophomore Shea Trecek posted a 54 for Concordia.
Haley Lewis, a sophomore, carded a 57 and senior Maddie Blochlinger shot 57.
“Shea and Haley each had decent days, and improved upon their scores from our home opener. I look for them to keep improving and really help us as the season progresses,” Rundus said.
Sophia Garrison, Hays, earned medalist honors in the tournament with a 40.
Concordia sophomore McKenzie Widen placed 10th in the junior varsity tournament played on the par three course with a 30.
Kathleen Rhodes, Salina Central, was medalist with a 24.
Concordia will play in the Wamego Invitational on Thursday.
“Luckily, we won't have much time to dwell on what could have been since we head to Wamego on Thursday,” Rundus said, “With a little luck and some positive talk, I'm sure that we can knock some strokes off our ho-hum outing today.”
