CHS places second at Clay Center

CLAY CENTER — The Concordia High School girls' golf team, with three players finishing in the top six individually, placed second in the Clay Center Invitational Thursday at Clay Center Country Club.
Wamego won the team title with a score of 189. Concordia posted a 190 and Thomas More Prep-Marian was third with a 196.
“Obviously it's more fun to win by one stroke than take second by one stroke, but we were in the mix and that made it exciting,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said.
Abby Donovan finished third individually for Concordia with a 44.
Katie Donovan carded a 45. She won a scorecard playoff over Samantha Wick, Wamego, and placed fourth.
“The Donovans kept it up today with a pair of top five finishes. We'll need that leadership again as we gear up for a return to Hesston for our regionals in a little over a week,” Rundus said.
Michaela Wetter placed sixth for Concordia with a  46.
“Michaela has been fighting a sore back, but she battled through and finished with two pars,” Rundus said.
Maddie Blochlinger rounded out the top four for Concordia with a 55.
Sreya Kemling shot a 57 for the Panthers and Shea Trecek carded a 61.
Shannen Chin, Thomas More Prep-Marian, was the individual medalist with an even par 34.
