Cloud County goes 3-1 in Barton Classic

GREAT BEND — The 12th-ranked Cloud County Community College volleyball team, losing only to 10th-ranked Iowa Western Community College, went 3-1 in the Barton Community College Classic played Friday and Saturday.
Suffering the loss to Iowa Western, the Thunderbirds were 1-1 on Friday.
Cloud County, now 18-4, went four sets to defeat host Barton Community College.
Barton took the first set, 25-15.
Cloud County evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 victory in the second set.
The T-Birds won the third set 25-21 and then closed out the match by narrowly defeating the Cougars 25-23 in the fourth set.
Sophomore Dayana Chara had 19 kills and 22 digs for Cloud County.
Freshman setter Riley Bontrager finished with 47 assists and 11 digs.
Cloud County capped off the classic by sweeping Labette Community College, 25-14, 25-14, 25-11.
Delaney Herold and Mary Broxterman had 10 kills each in the win.
Sophomore Madi Spencer led the T-Birds with 18 digs.
Cloud County opened the event against Iowa Western on Friday, and tumbled in three sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-13.
Chara had 15 kills for the T-Birds.
Cloud County then knocked off Pratt Community College in four sets.
The T-Birds won the first two sets, 25-21, 25-18.
Pratt stayed alive by winning the third set, 25-18.
Cloud County closed out the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.
Chara led the T-Birds with 17 kills and Broxterman added 14.
Herold had 21 digs.
Bontrager finished with 42 assists.
