Cloud County wrestlers drop 13th-ranked Barton

Two pins to open the dual, and a pair of forfeits to cap it off, gave the 25th-ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling team a 30-21 victory over 13th-ranked Barton Community College Wednesday night in Bryant Gymnasium.
Blayne Harris, 125 pounds, and Blake Leiszler, 133 pounds, recorded pins to get the dual started for the T-Birds.
Barton would win five of the next six matches to take a 21-18 lead.
The Cougars were then open at 197 pounds and 285 pounds, giving up 12 points as Cloud County recorded the dual win.
“It felt great to get a win tonight, and I was happy to see our guys come out and follow the game plan that we discussed in each of their matches,” Cloud County coach Cody Cole said, “We've instilled into our guys to do whatever they can to help the team, and we saw that tonight as even though some our wrestlers didn't get wins they made sure not to give up bonus points that really made a difference tonight. Bonus points win duals and our guys definitely did what they had to do to get a win in front of the home crowd tonight.”
Wrestling at home for the final time this season, Harris, ranked ninth in the 125-pound class, pinned Barton's Zack Gomez in 1:35.
Leiszler then took 2:50 to pin Javier Duchene and put the Thunderbirds up 12-0.
Cloud County would then drop the next four matches.
Joel Ostrom fell 7-4 to Drew Burgoon in the 141-pound class.
Nate Normandin, 149 pounds, lost a 14-1 major decision to Koby Droegemeier.
Chandler Schoenberger was pinned by third-ranked Gable Howerton in the 157-pound class.
Kobryn Mann, 165 pounds, lost by major decision, 12-0, to ninth-ranked Andrew DeArmond.
Dante Harper gave Cloud County an 18-17 lead by pinning Jacob Sanchez in 6:40 in the 174-pound class.
Barton took the lead back at 21-18 when seventh-ranked Joey Ewalt won an 11-0 major decision over Micah Sterling in the 184-pound class.
Cloud County's Marcquiece Cade, 197, and Elwin Trejo, 285, won by forfeits.
