CNB’s season ends with regional loss

BELOIT — Citizen National Bank's shortened season came to an end with a 13-5 loss to Smith Center  in the opening round of the K-18 Baseball Regional Tournament Thursday night.
Sending nine batters to the plate, Citizens National Bank jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Payton Breese led off the inning with a walk.
Caleb Hanson singled, and Joey Henderson walked.
A ground ball by Jace Tholstrup got Breese home.
Hanson scored on a wild pitch.
With two out, Maddox Frey walked.
Dustin Sterrett drove in a run, and Frey scored on an error.
Smith Center made it a 4-1 game with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Pushing across five runs in the bottom of the second inning, Smith Center went on top to stay, 6-4.
Smith Center made it an 8-1 game with two runs in the third inning.
Four runs in the fourth inning gave Smith Center a 12-4 advantage.
Hanson led off the top of the fifth inning with a single and stole second. He scored on an error to make it a 12-5 game.
Smith Center scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game because of the eight-run rule.
Breese, Hanson and Ashton Dooley did the pitching for Citizens National Bank.
Hanson had two hits and scored two runs.
