Concordia qualifies four wrestlers for state tournament

Led by individual champion Jordan Anguish, four members of the Concordia High School wrestling team qualified for the Class 4A state tournament.
Anguish, a senior, went 4-0 on his way to placing first in the 113-pound class in the regional tournament hosted by Concordia on Friday and Saturday.
It will be the second straight trip to state for Anguish.
Layton Kindel, 160 pounds, qualified for state for the first time by placing second at regionals.
Sajen Kemling finished third in the 106-pound class to make it back to the state tournament.
Hunter Schroeder punched his ticket to state for the third straight year by placing fourth in the 182-pound class.
The state tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Tony's Pizza Event Center in Salina.
Concordia finished fourth in the regional tournament as a team with 108 points.
Marysville won the tournament with 175 points. Scott City was second with 152 and Colby was third with 127.
Anguish, who is 31-9 heading to state, received a bye in the first round of the regional tournament. He pinned Mason Smith, Nickerson, in 1:29 in the quarterfinals.
Advancing to the semifinals, Anguish won a 9-6 decision over Cooper Wuthnow, Abilene.
Anguish then defeated Aiden Cook, Colby, 7-3 in the championship match.
Kindel, a senior, pinned Tyrone Taylor, Hesston, in the second period in his opening round match. He then needed just 1:14 to pin Lawrence Smith, Chapman, in the quarterfinals.
Defeating Drew Burenheide, Rock Creek, 13-7 in the semifinals, Kindel earned a spot in the title match.
Hayden Oviatt, Wamego, won an 11-2 major decision over Kindel in the finals.
Kindel is 32-13 going into the state tournament.
Kemling (28-10) won by injury default over Evan Fry, Scott City, in the opening round. The junior fell 11-6 to eventual champion Rhett Koppes, Clay Center, in the semifinals.
In the consolation bracket, Kemling pinned Devon Mayfield, Buhler, in 38 seconds. He won a 5-2 decision over Christopher McClanahan, Abilene, in the third place match.
Schroeder, a junior, received a bye in the first round and then pinned Matthew Monroe, Nickerson, in 45 seconds to reach the semifinals.
Cale Goodman, Scott City, pulled out a 6-5 win over Schroeder in the semifinal matchup.
Goodman defeated Dax Hopp, Smoky Valley, 3-2 in the title match.
Schroeder (29-5) pinned Domanic Clopton, Hesston, in the consolation semifinals to assure the trip to state. He was pinned by Storm Slupianek, Marysville, in the third place match.
Concordia had Koby Tyler, 120; Toby Wahlmeier, 132; Easton Hake, 145; Nathan Brown, 152; Keyan Miller, 170; and Dalton Owen, 285, each come within one win of qualifying for state.
Tyler, a freshman, pinned Gavin Shoup, Rock Creek, in 22 seconds in the opening round. He fell 9-3 to Garett Kalivoda, Clay Center, in the semifinals.
Kaleb Stroda, Abilene, defeated Tyler 5-2 in the consolation semifinals.
Wahlmeier won his first match with a pin in 41 seconds. The sophomore then lost by technical fall, 15-0, to Drew Brown, Wamego.
In the consolation bracket, Wahlmeier pinned Keden Frahm, Colby. He then lost by fall to Michael Friesen, Hesston.
Hake, a senior, won by fall in the first round. He dropped a major decision, 11-0, to Jonny Crome, Marysville.
Crome went on to place first.
Hake won a 12-1 major decision over Caleb Purvis, Rock Creek, and defeated Garrett Slater, Hesston,  6-1 before losing by fall to Justin Wisner-McLane, Chapman.
Brown, a sophomore, lost by major decision to Dylan Schneider, Nickerson. He received a bye; downed Kaleb Jackson, Rock Creek, 4-2; and pinned Kyler Welling, Chapman, in 2:06 before dropping a 4-1 decision to Keegan Caudillo, Marysville.
Miller, a sophomore, received a bye and then lost 9-2 to Cade Lanning, Colby.
In the consolation bracket, Miller pinned Cody Wohlgemuth, Hesston, in 1:09. He then fell 5-1 to Caleb Vandergrift, Scott City.
Owen, a sophomore, received a bye in the first round and then lost 7-0 to eventual champion Gabriel Bowers, Scott City, in the semifinals. He pinned Ethan Parrott, Hesston, before losing by fall to Declan Ryan, Colby.
Daniel Vines, a freshman wrestling at 126 for Concordia, received a bye in the first round and then fell 14-7 to Zach Rohrbough, Scott City.
Vines pinned Spencer Bard, Rock Creek, in 1:51 in the consolation bracket. He then fell 10-8 to Justice Gardner, Smoky Valley.
Cade Anderson, 138 pounds, was pinned in the first round by eventual champion Kaden Wren, Scott City. The junior defeated Alek Tipsword, Clay Center, before losing by fall to Javin Welsh, Abilene.
Senior Robert Trost, 195 pounds, lost by fall to Sam Logan, Nickerson, in the opening round. He received a bye in the consolation bracket, and then lost by fall to Jeffery Nix, Scott City.
Sophomore Shelby Giersch, 220 pounds, lost by fall to Michael Schneider, Nickerson, in the first round. He defeated Leroy Bean, Smoky Valley, 4-1, and then lost by fall to Keegan McDonald, Clay Center.
