Concordia wrestlers win Hoisington Corner Classic

HOISINGTON — Five individual champions led the Concordia High School wrestling team to a first-place finish in the Hoisington Corner Classic on Friday.
Concordia had Sajen Kemling, 106 pounds; Koby Tyler, 120; Daniel Vines, 126; Layton Kindel, 160; and Hunter Schroeder, 182, place first in their respective weight classes.
The Panthers captured the team title with 215 points. Hoisington was second with 148.5 points and Larned was third with 128.
It was the second straight tournament championship for the Panthers. They won the Jeff Giles Memorial Tournament in Minneapolis the previous Saturday.
Concordia had Jordan Anguish, 113 pounds; Keyan Miller, 170 pounds; Shelby Giersch, 220 pounds; and Dalton Owen, 285 pounds, place second in the tournament.
Toby Wahlmeier, 132 pounds; Nathan Brown, 152 pounds; and Robert Trost, 195 pounds, placed third.
Kemling (11-3) won all four of his matches by fall on his way to a first-place finish. He pinned Aaron Garcia, Cimarron, in 1:17; Cade Parr, Larned, in 57 seconds; Austin Armstrong, Larned in 1:10 and Eastin Redetzke, Hoisington, in 39 seconds.
Tyler (13-3) finished 5-0 on the day, with all five wins coming by pin. He pinned Chase Steinert, Hoisington, in 3:15; Karter Wolf, Hoisington, in 2:19; Christ Harris, Holcomb, in 43 seconds; Corbin Weers, Larned, in 1:22; and Deryk Yott, Hoisington, in 40 seconds.
Vines (12-2) won three matches, all by fall. He pinned Ian Doss, Hoisington, in 1:31; Nicolas Rubio, in 1:23; and Gatlin Hoch, Larned, in 1:20.
Kindel (12-4) pinned Dylan Gantz, Stafford, in 3:37 in the 160-pound championship match. In his pool, he pinned Jaiden Castillo, Holcomb, in 22 seconds; pinned Aiden Neill, Eureka, in 1:30; pinned Christian Harmon, Cimarron, in 1:43; and pinned Kyler Henry, Cimarron, in 2:43.
Schroeder (6-0) won five consecutive matches by fall. He pinned Layne Johnson, Cimarron, in 42 seconds; Ethan Boles, Eureka, in 35 seconds; Noah Deines, Hoisington, in 39 seconds; Carter Atteberry, in 56 seconds; and Caden McCandless, Stafford, in 2:25.
Anguish (11-2) pinned Quentin Boxberger, Hoisington, in 1:44 and Caden Adkins, Eureka, in 2:26. He suffered a 5-3 loss to Dillen Hool, Larned.
Miller (13-3) went 4-1 on the day. He defeated Garrison Spoonts, Eureka, 11-6; pinned Tarren Beiring, Eureka, in 43 seconds; pinned Dylan Reed, in Stafford, in 1:52; defeated Josh Kramer, Larned, 7-2; and then lost a 12-1 major decision to Tate Seabolt, Cimarron.
Giersch (7-7) pinned Mason Gunter, Stafford, in 13 seconds in his first match. He pinned Logan Philbern, Hoisington, in 1:38; and then lost by fall to Cole Gilliland, Hoisington.
Owen went 1-1. He pinned Oliver Wade, Eureka, in 56 seconds, and lost by fall to Cade Boxberger, Hoisington.
Wahlmeier (9-6) posted a 3-2 record on his way to a third-place finish. He lost by fall to Sebastian Munoz, Holcomb; pinned Tamari Howard, Hoisington, in 2:32; pinned Zach Harmon, Cimarron, in 1:04; lost by fall to Evan Foltz, Hoisington; and pinned Jacob Colglazier, Larned, in 43 seconds.
Brown (9-7) was also 3-2. He lost by fall to Cole Steinert, Hoisington; pinned Braxton Linsner, Hoisington, in 42 seconds; pinned Kolby Johnson, Holcomb, in 5:26; lost by fall to Brennan Lowe, Eureka; and pinned Alex Sefried, Cimarron, in 42 seconds.
Trost (6-9) dropped a 3-1 decision to Wyatt Ruest, Eureka, in the opening round. He pinned Alijah Rodby, in 41 seconds; lost by fall to Wyatt Pedigo, Hoisington; and pinned Elliott Copp, Hoisington, in 2:35.
Concordia had Eastan Hake go 2-3 and finish fourth in the 145-pound class.
Hake (7-7) lost by fall to Dayne Yott, Hoisington; pinned Aidan Molinar, Cimarron, in 44 seconds; lost by fall to Samajay Alboyd, Larned; pinned Johnny Lazano, Holcomb, in 1:8; and lost by fall to Brody Harrison, Eureka.
Cade Anderson picked up a win for Concordia in the 138-pound class.
In the girls' division of the tournament, Concordia's Kassidy Leiszler won three straight matches to place first in the 101-pound class.
Leiszler (8-3) defeated Breckyn Elliott, Great Bend, 8-1. She pinned Mana Chanthasone, Liberal, in 3:14 and pinned Karley Stukey, Great Bend, in 55 seconds.
The Concordia junior varsity had four wrestlers place in the top two at the Abilene Invitational.
Torxsten Kindel won two matches by fall to capture first place in the 113-pound class.
Braxton Kindel went 1-1, and finished second in the 126-pound class.
Austin Wilson, 182C, placed third. He was 2-1.
Gunnar Hale also went 2-1 and finished second in the 220B class.
