Donovan leads CHS golfers to fourth-place finish

HAYS — Led by individual champion Abby Donovan, the Concordia High School girls' golf team placed fourth in the Thomas More Prep-Marian Invitational Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club.
Donovan, a junior, followed up a 46 on the front nine with a 39 on the back to post a winning score of 85.
Corbyn Marques, Plainville, was a distant second with a 96.
“Abby played good enough to win, but she struggled a little on the par five holes,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said.
Concordia finished with a team score of 445.
Wamego won the tournament with a 395. Thomas More Prep was second with a 423 and Cimarron was third with a 432.
“Though the team placed fourth, we will need to focus on our short game if we want to make a run at state when we head to Cheney next week,” Rundus said.
Shea Trecek carded a 117 for Concordia.
McKenzie Widen shot a 122, and Maddie Blochlinger rounded out the top for the Panthers with a 122.
