Dvorak, Rundus place in top 10

CLAY CENTER — Hayden Dvorak and Paul Rundus recorded top 10 finishes for the Concordia High School golf team in the Clay Center Invitational Thursday at Clay Center Country Club.
Dvorak, a freshman, followed up a 46 on the front nine with a 40 on the back to finish with an 86 and place sixth individually.
Rundus, a senior, shot 46-41 and placed seventh with an 87.
Braxton Kindel was forced to withdraw from the tournament because of illness, and the Concordia team was unable to post a four-man score.
Tison Peltier carded a 122 for the Panthers.
“We had a better showing on the back nine today. After the first nine, the guys realized that hitting fairways was more of a premium than pure distance, and they did a good job of adjusting,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said. “The rough was pretty hairy and we played it down all day, but it was needed practice as we head toward league and regionals. Peltier did a pretty good job for it being his first 18-hole event, much less a varsity one. His back nine was his first time in the 50's, so there was progress for everyone as the tournament wound down.”
Wamego won the team title with a 335. Marysville was second with a 355 and Clay Center was third with a 368.
Gavin Wilson, Wamego, was the individual medalist with a 75.
Concordia will play in the Marysville Invitational on Monday.
