Four CCCC wrestlers advance to national tournament

MIAMI, Okla. — The Cloud County Community College wrestling team will be represented by three wrestlers at the NJCAA National Championships scheduled for March 6-7 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Sophomores Quentin Jiner, 157 pounds; Kevin Murry, 197 pounds; and Elwin Trejo, 285 pounds; qualified for nationals by placing in the top five in their respective weight classes in the NJCAA West/Central District Championships hosted by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Saturday.
Sophomore Blaine Harris, 125 pounds, received a wild card for the national tournament.
Jiner placed third in the district tournament. He lost a 13-3 major decision to Jon Towbridge, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, and then posted three consecutive wins.
After pinning Dallas Boone, Neosho County Community College, in 1:12, Jiner won a narrow decision over Gable Howerton, Barton Community College. He then won by injury default over James Foy, Northwest Kansas Technical College, in the third place match.
Trejo recorded a fourth-place finish. He pinned Jesse Quilimaco, Colby Community College, and then lost by fall to Tyler Shannon, Cowley College.
Slipping past Darron Harvey, Arkansas Baptist, 3-2, Trejo earned a spot in the third place match. He would forfeit the match.
Murry earned a trip to nationals by placing fifth. He won by forfeit over Jacob Sanchez, Barton; lost by fall to Bryce Westmoreland, Pratt Community College; lost by major decision to Dylan Newton, Neosho, 13-3; and then pinned Andrew Leitold, Labette Community College, in 39 seconds in the fifth-place match.
Harris lost by technical fall, 16-0, to Luke Montgomery, Northeastern Oklahoma, who would place second, and lost by fall to Zach Tucker, Colby, who would finish sixth, but earned the wild card to nationals.
Cloud County had Kobryn Mann, 165, and Dante Harper, 174, place sixth in the tournament.
Mann lost by technical fall, 18-2, to Chinges Tsermaa, Northwest Tech; defeated Logan Allen, Neosho, 6-4; won by medical forfeit over Luke Culbertson, Pratt; lost by medical forfeit to Scott Radke, Northeastern Oklahoma; and then lost by injury forfeit to Tsermaa.
Harper lost by fall to Jacobi Deal, Northwest Tech; pinned Chance Costello Jr., Arkansas Baptist in 2:22; lost 11-4 to Misael Monarrez, Pratt; and lost by injury default to Jesus Nunez, Cowley.
Cloud County finished ninth as a team in the tournament with 66 points.
Northeastern Oklahoma won the team title with 183.5 points. Cowley was second with 135 and Northwest Tech was third with 120.
