High scoring Tigers race past T-Birds

ARKANSAS CITY — High scoring Cowley College raced to a 102-81 Jayhawk Conference East Division victory over the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds Saturday night.
The 13th-ranked Tigers went into the game averaging 109.7 points per contest, second highest in the nation behind Temple (Texas) College at 114.
Cowley, which has now won five straight games to improve to 18-3 overall and an East leading 10-1, had been limited to less than 100 points just four times this season.
The Tigers had put up 239 combined points in wins over Coffeyville Community College and Neosho Community College prior to knocking off Cloud County.
It was the fifth straight loss for the T-Birds, who are now 8-12 overall and 2-9 in the conference.
Cloud County shot just 30 percent (11 of 37) from the field in the first half, and trailed 53-32.
The T-Birds would pump in 49 points in the second half, but also allowed 49 points.
Cowley scored 31 points off 25 Cloud County turnovers.
The Tigers out rebounded the T-Birds 55-45, and had a 20-9 advantage in second chance points.
Sophomore guard DJ Sims led four Cloud County players in double figures with 21 points.
Jay Lewis scored 14 points for the T-Birds. Dyelan Reed and Denzel Ndongosi added 10 points each.
Shemarri Allen scored 21 points for Cowley.
After playing two straight games on the road, the T-Birds will host Allen County Community College Wednesday night.
Allen, 12-7 overall, opened conference play 7-0, but has suffered three straight losses.
