Knights shut out Southern Cloud

Coleman Plymesser and Karson Lister combined on a three-hit shutout as the Concordia Knights of Columbus downed Southern Cloud 3-0 in the first round of the Peewee Baseball District 3 Tournament Monday night at the Concordia Sports Complex.
The Knights of Columbus advance to the semifinals to play the Concordia Lions at 8 p.m. Thursday.
In the other game played Monday night, Clifton knocked off Valley Heights 11-1 to move on to the semifinals.
Clifton will take on top-seeded Clyde at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The third-place game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday with the championship game to follow.
The top three teams qualify for the State Peewee Tournament to be played next week in Concordia.
The Knights of Columbus and Southern Cloud were scoreless through two innings.
Patrick Cyphers led off the top of the third inning for the Knights of Columbus with a walk.
Christian Waterman followed with a single, and both would come around to score to give the Knights of Columbus a 2-0 lead.
Karson Lister had a base hit in the inning.
Lister was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth inning and came around to score to make it 3-0.
Plymesser pitched the first two innings for the Knights of Columbus. He struck out five and walked two.
Lister gave up three hits, struck out eight and didn't walk any. He also had two hits in the game.
Clifton got out an 8-1 lead in the first two innings on its way to the win over Valley Heights.
Leading 2-0 after one inning, Clifton sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the top of the second inning to make it 8-0.
Valley Heights scored its only run in the bottom of the second inning.
Three runs in the top of the third inning gave Clifton the 11-1 cushion.
The game ended after three innings because of the 10-run rule.
