Panther cruise to pair of wins over Lions

MINNEAPOLIS — Racking up 25 runs, the Concordia High School softball team cruised to a pair of road wins over Minneapolis on Friday.
Four players drove in two runs each and McKenzie Widen tossed a two-hitter as Concordia won the first game 11-1 in five innings.
Concordia, now 5-11, completed the doubleheader sweep with a 14-3 victory in six innings in game two.
In game one, Kendall Reynolds singled, stole second and third and scored on a base hit by Hailey Budke in the top of the first inning to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Concordia made it a 4-0 game with three runs in the top of the third inning.
Arista Bombardier led off the inning by reaching base on an error. She scored on a double by Taegen Larsen.
Reynolds singled to drive in Larsen.
An error allowed Reynolds to score the third run of the inning.
Minneapolis scored its only run off of Widen in the bottom of the third inning.
Sending 10 batters to the plate, the Panthers put up seven runs, two outs in the top of the fifth inning to grab an 11-1 advantage.
Allison Poore walked with two out and Budke singled.
Kira Kearn knocked in two runs with a double. She would score on a passed ball.
Kassidy Leiszler and Widen each singled.
Genna Strait drove in two runs with a single.
Bombardier followed with a base hit.
Larsen and Reynolds had run producing singles.
Widen set the Lions down in order in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the game ended because of the 10-run rule.
Widen worked all five innings and gave up one run on two hits, struck out three and walked two.
Reynolds was 3-for-4 at the plate. She drove in two runs and scored two.
Budke had three hits in three at bats.
Larsen was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
Kearn and Strait knocked in two runs each.
Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning in game two.
Larsen singled and scored on a double by Reynolds.
Poore doubled and scored on a ground ball.
Kearn got aboard on a fielder's choice and scored on an error.
The Lions made it a 3-1 game with a run in the the second inning.
Two runs in the top of the third inning put the Panthers on top 5-1.
Poore singled and Kearn doubled.
Budke drove in a run with a fly ball.
Kearn scored on a passed ball.
Larsen singled, stole second and third and got home on an error in the top of the fourth inning to give Concordia a 6-1 cushion.
Minneapolis closed the gap to 6-3 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
A six-run fifth inning pushed the Panthers' lead to 12-3.
Budke, Maddie Blochlinger, Kaitlen Riley, Bombardier and Jaden Wilson had consecutive singles.
Poore had a two-run double in the inning.
Scoring two more runs in the sixth inning, the Panthers led 14-3.
Wilson singled and scored on a fly ball by Reynolds.
A single by Poore plated Larsen.
The game ended after six innings.
Larsen pitched the first three innings to get the win. She allowed two unearned runs on one hit, struck out one and walked one.
Budke gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits, struck out four and walked two in three innings.
The Panthers pounded out 19 hits.
Poore had four hits in four at bats, drove in two runs and scored two.
Kearn was 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.
Larsen had two hits and scored three runs.
Reynolds, Bombardier and Wilson had two hits each.
The Panthers will play a North Central Kansas League doubleheader at Marysville on Tuesday.
