Panthers earn split with Buffs

BELLEVILE — Kassidy Leiszler and Hailey Budke drove in nine runs combined to power the Concordia High School softball team to a 12-6 victory over Republic County in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.
Leiszler had four hits in five at bats and drove in five runs for the Panthers.
Budke went 3-for-5, including two doubles, with four runs batted in.
Republic County scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 9-8 victory in the second game of the twinbill.
Concordia (2-6) put up five runs in the top of the first inning in game one.
Taegen Larsen and Kendall Reynolds singled to start the inning.
With one out, Rachelle Anderson singled to drive in a run.
Budke followed with a run producing base hit.
Leiszler knocked in two runs with a single, and scored on a base hit by McKenzie Widen.
Republic County answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Buffaloes were shut out over the next four innings.
Three runs in the top of the second inning gave the Panthers an 8-4 advantage.
Reynolds and Allison Poore singled and Anderson reached on an error to load the bases.
A double by Budke got two runs home.
Leiszler followed with a run producing single.
Anderson singled and scored on a double by Budke in the fourth inning to put Concordia on top 9-4.
The Panthers made it a 12-4 game with three runs in the fifth inning.
Larsen and Reynolds each singled.
Poore drove in a run with a double.
A two-out double by Leiszler plated two more runs.
Republic County scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 12-6.
Widen started on the mound for Concordia and gave up four runs on no hits in a third of an inning. She walked four.
Budke went six and two-thirds innings to get the win. She allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out three.
Concordia banged out 21 hits in the game.
Larsen and Reynolds had four hits each.
Anderson was 3-for-5 at the plate and Poore had two hits.
Larsen led off the second game with a single and scored on a base hit by Budke to give Concordia an early 1-0 lead.
The Panthers pushed the lead to 2-0 with a run in the top of the third inning.
Reynolds doubled with one out and scored on a single by Poore.
Republic County grabbed its first lead of the day, 3-2, with three runs in the bottom of the third.
The Buffaloes added one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to lead 5-2.
Concordia tied the game at 5-5 with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Larsen doubled with one out and scored on a two-out single by Poore.
Anderson followed with a run producing double.
Budke doubled to drive in Anderson with the tying run.
The Panthers pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth inning, and led 8-5.
Jaden Wilson and Larsen singled.
Reynolds drove in one run with a base hit.
Poore then knocked in two runs with a single.
Concordia was one out away from completing the sweep.
With two out in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Buffaloes scored four runs on for singles and two errors to steal the win.
Widen pitched the first three innings, and gave up three runs on six hits. She walked two.
Budke allowed six runs, two earned, on nine hits and walked two in four and two-thirds innings in taking the loss.
Concordia scored eight runs on 15 hits.
Larsen was 4-for-5 at the plate.
Poore and Budke had three hits and drove in three runs each.
Reynolds had two hits and knocked in two runs.
The Panthers will host Chapman in a North Central Kansas League doubleheader on Tuesday.
