Panthers finish fourth in Abilene Invitational

ABILENE — The Concordia High School boys' tennis team placed fourth in the Abilene Invitational on Tuesday.
Concordia scored six points in the meet.
Abilene won the tournament with 24 points. Ellsworth also scored 24 points, and finished second. Hays was third with 12 points.
Isaac Bombardier finished fifth in number one singles for Concordia. He was beaten 6-0 by Joey Oberle, Ellsworth, and 8-0 by Zac Wyse, Hays. He then defeated Jared Littrell, Clay Center, 8-0.
Elijah Steffen and Keegan Grogan placed fifth in number one doubles for the Panthers. They lost 8-3 to Ellsworth and 8-2 to Hays, and knocked off Chapman, 8-1.
Playing number two singles, Eric Grogan fell 8-2 to Cody Bourbon, Ellsworth, and 8-1 to Chris Goodale, Hays, and then downed Brody Rosenow, Clay Center, to finish fifth.
Ismael Perez and Christian Redmond placed third in number two doubles for Concordia. They lost 8-1 to Ellsworth in the first round and then defeated Hays 8-5 and Clay Center, 8-0.
“We were a little disappointed with our performance in pool play, but the guys responded the right way and got four good wins in crossover play,” Concordia coach Michael Wahlmeier said, “We are proud of everyone, but excited that Christian and Ismael are bringing home third-place medals.
