Panthers have two individuals, 4x100 qualify for state

SCOTT CITY — Two individuals and one relay team will represent Concordia High School in the Class 3A State Track and Field Championships in Wichita next Friday and Saturday.
Seniors Emma Wahlmeier and Oakley Champlin and the Concordia girls' 4x100 relay team qualified for state by placing in the top four in their respective events at the Class 3A regional hosted by Scott Community High School on Thursday.
Wahlmeier, who qualified for state for the fourth consecutive year, placed second in the 400-meter dash at the regional meet with a time of 1:01.01.
Abby Babcock, Phillipsburg, won the event in 1:00.38.
Wahlmeier placed second at state in the 400 as a sophomore and third as a freshman.
Turning in a time of 12.77, Wahlmeier placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and just missed qualifying for state.
Alexi Beach, Phillipsburg, won the race in 12.38.
Concordia's 4x100 relay team of Wahlmeier, Zoe Bechard, Sierra Gropp and Katlynn Miller qualified for state by finishing fourth in the regional meet with a time of 51.35.
Phillipsburg ran 50.50 to place first.
Champlin threw a personal best of 141-4 to place fourth at regionals and earn his first trip to state.
Creighton Johnson, Beloit, claimed the regional title with a toss of 160-2.
The Concordia girls had Ava Swihart clear 4-10 to place fifth in the high jump.
Terin Rundus finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 109-3.
Sierra Gropp ran 27.42 to place fifth in the 200-meter dash.
Beau Bonebrake was fifth in the javelin for the Concordia boys with a throw of 147-6.
